Hello everyone! :D

Over the next few weekends I am going to be spending my time at the lovely Mismere to see the red deer rutting. Any advice on equipment / lenses greatly received.

Kind regards and thanks in advance.

Sarah

Use your 300mmL and keep a respectable distance.

Sarah,

As Douie says:
Use your 300mmL and keep a respectable distance.

Then add a 1.4 extender and maintain an even more respectable and safe distance - things can turn rough and you don't want to be in the way.

Then be willing to crop a little

Nah, you should be fine at 300mm / 420mm - just keep you 'exits' clear and pay attention to what is going on ALL around you.

Sarah, be careful, there is no fat on these animals, just muscle and very hard antlers..............

Sarah the original post title questions just begs to be answered...............never attempt to rut a deer with a lens lol.

As said.. 300 + 1.4x if you have one.
