I'm sure you get tired of these, but I have just bought a 20D and am struggling with the lenses.
What I want to shoot is landscape / walkabout mainly, with some light tent product / food shots.
Am I way off with a Sigma 17-70 F2.8 - 4.5 OR Tamron 17 - 50 F2.8
WITH
a 55 - 250 IS?
Would a Nifty be a good lens to have.
I have a 90 cm tent for the product shots, mainly baby clothing and restaurant plated food.
The sigma is ~£170 used, Tamron ~£220. Canon 55 - 350 IS ~£135.
I currently have the std kit 18 - 55 which I will sell on.
Over to you guys please

Yes to the nifty, a great lens that is suprisingly versatile

I use a 55-250 is which I'm pleased with, I also use a canon 17-85 is which I find a good walkabout.

Looking again, would it be to my advantage to get the 18 - 125 as a walk about? Looking at he spec on the 17 - 70, F2.8 is quickly to F3.5 any way.

Sigma 18-125mm f/3.5-5.6 DC or Sigma 17 70mm F2.8-4.5 Macro DC

If you are getting a Sigma consider the 18-50 f/2.8 Macro. It's a constant 2.8, well built, sharp and with good close focusing performance.

I'd combine that or the Tamron with a 55-250is and then if the f/2.8 was not enough for you I'd consider buying the 50mm f/1.8
