Hi Folks
I'm using a Siggy 150-500 is at the mo but have a chance for a swap for a Canon 300 f4. Other than losing the reach am I going to benefit with this deal? I tend to do wildlife stuff really such as birds/deer etc.
Any comments welcome.

I have the 300 F4 IS and 1.4 which is attatched just about as permanant fixture which gives me 420mm f5.6 set up
I like the set up and works for me and is still fairly quick at focussing.
If you are happy with your set up then I think I would stick with it retain zoom flexibility and reach

+1.

While the 300 prime + TC combo might be sharper, at 500mm you'll be looking at the same aperture anyway, without that flexibility of a zoom. I know it's more pricey, but I'd say it would only be worth it really if you either never really shoot at over 300mm or you spent a bit (lot) more and got the 2.8 version of the 300mm.

Thanks folks. I wondered if I would gain in image quality. Quite happy to get a 1.4 tc for reach. I find the Siggy a little soft at times tbh.
