at the moment i,m using the standard lens 18-135 on my d300 but been looking at a tamron in jessops for £99 online its a 70-300 so my question is should i go for that or keep hold of my nikon lens ? i enjoy wildlife photography so thats the reason i,m thinking of the tamron any help or advive would be appreceated .

That Tamron is notoriously soft at pretty much every range. I'd stick ith the Nikon until you can afford something better.

yes - much better. That lens is generally thought of as one that punches above its weight
 
Soft means the images dont come out crisp and sharp. The edges lack definition and the images just generally look poor. With lenses (the 50mm f/1.8's aside) you usually get what you pay for. A £99 lens isnt going to be very good.

Never used the 55-200, but its seems to get good reviews.
 
You might want to save and go for a bit more reach... depending on what you are shooting...

80-400 (tokina) 100-400 (not sure which brand.. nikon?) or the 50-500 (sigma)

But they will have a more hefty price tag...

Possibly you could use a teleconverter? 1.4x or 2x ?
Might not be as good as a dedicated lens, but is around the 160-200 ukp ?
