I have around 400 to spend i want to get a decent wide angle lens and these are the two I have narrowed it down to:

Tamron

Sigma

I'm really only new to this game so any help would be much appreciated!

You might want to consider the Tokina 11-16 which is supposed to be very good though a bit over your budget. I have the sigma which im currently selling as im moving up to full frame and found it to be an interesting lens though it performs best off a tripod in low light rather than handheld in daylight which might be a comprimise if you do a lot of outdoor shooting

Outdoor shooting would comprise of about 90% of all photos i take. I don't want to be spending the guts of £400 on a lens that does not meet my needs. I'll research a few more and see what i come up with. I was considering going for the nikon 10.5 fisheye but i think i'm jumping the gun a little as i am still very much at a beginners level.

Best lens i ever used on a Nikon was the 18-55 VR Kit, if you want to shoot landscape you could save a lot of money by combining this with some panoramic stitching software. A fisheye is pretty specialist and unless you have a niche that requires it, might prove a bit limiting

I have the 18-55 VR kit, i'll have a look into some stitching software, i didn't even think of going down that route, many thanks :)

What about the Tokina 12-24  OSD Nice F4 wide... Under budget as well if you dont mind buying overseas....
