Lens advise required

I've recently purchased a canon 600d with 55-250mm lens. I would like a lens starting at 18mm to fill the gap.

What would you recommend, i've looked at sigma 18-200 as an alternative and the reviews seems very good but would like to know what some users consider.

Budget obviously is the deciding factor

In the Canon range you have to fill the gap to the 55-250

18-55 IS II
17-85 IS
15-85 IS
17-55 2.8 IS

to name a few all increasing in price, then there is the Sigma, Tamron lenses etc.

The 55-250IS is a cracker of a lens, esp for the price. Personally, I wouldn't be going for a superzoom -18-200 range as there will be compromises with the lens.

Is it a general walk about lens you're after ?
 
Hi Mark, I have a Canon 450D and I use a Sigma 18-50mm F2.8 EX DG Macro that I got second hand. It's a great lens and produces great images and can be had used from £200. The lens is pin sharp and produces brilliant portrates with blurred background and great landscape shots.

Unfortunately mine has some front focusing issues (only minor) and is being sent to sigma for calibration, this costs approximately £40 so take that into consideration if buying a used lens. If it is bought new Sigma will calibrate FOC.
 
After a general work about lens, I used my 55-250 the other day and found it lacked the wide angle pictures, and had to walk back a bit to get the picture i wanted.

Looking at around £200 max lens
 
For that kind of budget, you won't get better than the standard 18-55 IS kit zoom.

Not sure why you didn't get one with the camera, but the 55-250 was made to partner it.

You might be able to pick up a 17-85 IS 2nd hand for around that price
 
I had a 450d with the kit lens and sigma 70-300mm but sold them as a package thinking i no longer needed the 18-55 but now thinking that i do. The 600d was brought as a body only.

What I would do is decide what lens you are likely to use most and invest in that. Unless you shoot unusual subjects, it will be something around 18-50ish.

Good lenses are really worth paying for, but they are expensive. Top of the tree is either the excellent Canon 17-55 which is f/2.8, or 15-85 which has more range but misses out on lower f/numbers. There are cheaper options, but none of them is as good.

Meanwhile, get a cheap used kit zoom (the IS version is better optically) for about £100 - the for sale section here is excellent :)

Thanks the for sale section on here is out of bounds for a while due to my posting numbers.
 
MPBPhotographic has used 18-55 IS (don't get the non IS as it isn't as good optically) for £79 + delivery. Or fleabay....

I thought newcomers could buy, but not sell? Could be wrong though ;)
