Lens Band

Hi, I have a sigma 170-500 and the lens creep when carrying it means I have to hold it all the time. I've seen the lens band and a couple of questions.
1. Is it effective
2. Is there any difference to using a decent rubber band that doesn't cost £6 ?

I did try to search for this but the results just display a white screen and never display anything.

Same as the many many charity bands you can get.. Donate something to them and get one..

Everyone is happy then... Except lensband who charge silly money for something charities give away for peanuts.
