Lens Calibration

Hi All,

I recently bought a Canon 5D Mk II and Sigma 50mm f1.4.

I have noticed that there is a slight focus issue (front or back focussing, I cant quite tell). Ive been looking at micro adjusting my lenses and it would seem the easiest way to do this would be using an SLC100 Spyderlenscal.

I am reluctant to buy another item (especially a piece of plastic) at the cost it is advertuised at £50 on Amazon).

Anyone have an easier way to micro adjust or can they point me in the right direction of a cheaper route?

I have seen of a method using a moire pattern on a screen but can't remember where I saw it.

you focus on it at a normal distance used for the lens to get the most effect you can then switch to manual and see if changing focus improves it then you know your lens is set right, which way it is out is a bit of guess work though.

Live view, 10x zoom, manual focus on specific point, switch lens to auto focus.

If the focus moves, note which way and AF-MA to suit. Rinse and repeat until it doesn't change focus.
