Lens caps: a really basic question!

The lens cap on my Sigma 18-250 isn't attached to either lens body or camera (600D) and I just know it's going to fall off and be lost at some stage unless I attach it.

The attachments I've seen so far seem to be quite clumsy with sticky pads and thick cords (Blue Peter anyone?).

Is there an elegant, yet simple and unobtrusive solution?

you will get into the habit of putting them in your pocket soon enough. I did! If you are worreid about losing them , get some cheap ones ebay and use them and keep thte original safe!
 
Yep straight in my back right trouser pocket always when I remove a lens cap.

I won't tempt fate...
 
OK, getting into a pockets habit sounds like a possibility, except mine are usually full of other stuff.

Lets make it harder. I'm off to Antarctica and gloves + camera are going to be hard enough without trying to manoeuvre a lens cap in and out of a pocket in a padded windproof/waterproof jacket and trousers combination. I really need to dangle it somehow.

Hmmm. I have a little elastic chord that goes around barrel of lens and it works fine for me...?

How does the cord attach to the cap? I had thought of drilling a small hole close to the edge, passing a cord through and then knotting it on the inside. But I really don't want to disfigure the cap if I can avoid it.
 
The problem with a dangler is when it starts blowing about.

For Antarctica personally I'd stick with one lens, and leave the cap indoors.

There's a bit on there about using small plastic clips and clipping it to your strap.

With gloves etc it's going to be hard to get the cap on and off anyway. I would suggest you find a complete new solution - like a snug fitting plastic/rubber cap that you can glue a large handle to.

I would be thinking more about protecting the camera if you are worried about spray. As others have said the cap goes in the pocket it's a right pain taking off and on all the time when shooting. If I were you I would be looking at getting a large plastic bag to hold the camera in it dosen't take long for water to get in and stop the camera from working.

Just forget about the front cap. I get way too annoyed with them so don't use them. The front of the lens is protected by the lens hood and stored front up in my bag with nothing on top of them. Saves so much faff! (Rear cap is on as that end goes into the bottom of the bag, but I just use the rear cap from the lens I am putting on for the one I took off).
