Lens choice for canon astrophotography

If you can get your hands on a 200mm f/1.8, it will do the job for you.

And if you can get hold of 16 200mm f/1.8s, you'll have the same equipment as SuperWASP (the UK's biggest programme hunting for extra-solar planets).

There's no real answer! What you need to do is work out what you are taking photos of. Then work out its angular size and then determine which lens will fit that in - or not make it a point object in the frame.

The faster the lens, the better of course.

I was looking at the 200mm Canon. But with my main camera being the Nikon, I'd rather buy the 180mm Nikon and use with the adapter. I think.

Thank you though :)
Eh? Why mention the Canon 450d in your OP then? :)

Edit - sorry, I just saw this thread had randomly been revived from 2012?!! Ignore me.

...strange, Zanshin999 seems to be reviing lots of years old threads? Hmmm...

My fault. Didn't notice the dates. New to this forum. Why the 'hmmmm' ? That's the second comment I've had. If I'm p***ing people off then will someone please tell me why???

Sorry, not meant as a dig!

Sometimes commenting on very old threads is a way for new users to bump up their post count so they can get on the classified section. I think in your case though you've searched for a topic of genuine interest then posted on it, which just happened to be a few years old!

Pretty much what I replied in your other thread... Welcome to the forum BTW - and, occasionally the old thread thing even catches some of the regulars out...

Certainly did me! I got accused of being a 'troll'. Had to google that one...

Wasn't helped by your first posts on here being in one of the more "contentious" areas of the forum - i.e. reviews of "grey importing" suppliers - again, not something you'd necessarily know, but frankly, that subject has caused nearly as much bloodshed and polarised opinion as "Celtic or Rangers", "Windows or Apple" or "Nikon or Canon".... ;)

Still - you've hit the worst of the potholes now - just stay away from "speeding tickets" or any thread in Out of Focus that's got more than half a page of replies, and you should be golden

Thanks, BigYin. Having looked at the others rather extensive posts on the subject. I see what you mean...
