Yes
Which would you buy (both for Motorsport)

Canon EF-S 17-55 F2.8 Verses Tamron 17-50 F2.8

and

Canon 100-400 IS 4.5/5.6 Verses Sigma 120-300 F2.8

Am novice and erred towards the Tamron and Sigma, be grateful for pros and cons.

I think you are erring towards the price. There is no other reason not to buy the Canons ;)

But they won't fit your Sony.

if you are looking for a Sony then the 70-300 G SSM & 70-400 G SSM are both very good (pretty much best in class) & hard to go past for their ranges/price.

These are for Canon 7D, most of the magazine reviews seem to rate the sigma better than the canon esp for sports photography and the Canon is alot cheaper than the sigma

Most magazines? If you mean the recent review in Photo Plus (I think it was) that was the most unconvincing and superficial review I've read in a long time. How did they test the lenses for sharpness - by panning a motorcyle at high speed

Canon 100-400L is one of Canon's ace cards, and very good value for what it does and no other manufacturer can match it. Not even Nikon. Check the second hand values of this lens vs Sigma and you'll see how the market rates them.
