lens cleaning question (dremel)

You mean the glass?
 
Just buy a lenspen.....:thumbs:
 
:eek: Hope thats not the Dremel multi tool that has a 1001 uses (drill wise etc) :naughty:
 
I can only think of two reasons that someone would consier using a dremel to clean the front element of a camera lens.


Pointing out either would probably earn me a 7-day suspension from TP...........:lol:

Why would you need to do more than a cursory wipe of the glass? :thinking:

If you are somewhere where there is the possibility of getting something on the glass (sea, sand, dust, water etc) protect it with a filter.

Do not touch the front/rear elements with your fingers.
 
Its your lens if you want to use a drill to clean the lens - but in all honesty I'd use a micro-fibre cloth or a lenspen....
 
You don't need to polish a lens ....... just a quick wipe will suffice ... the less you touch it, the better
 
My local window cleaner does it for free when he is doing the rest of my glass. Bargain.
 
I take my lenses into the carwash with me.
Come up a treat.
 
Cleaned the griddle pan after tea and when I saw the brillo pad still had some life in it gave a couple of lenses a quick scrubbing
Not quite as thorough as the dishwasher, but waste not want not
 
Best way to clean lenses is from the inside, just bang it hard against the floor a couple of times to get the dirt loose, then stick the vacuum cleaner up the back and listen for that tinkling sound of bad pixels being sucked up.
Once done, submerge in a solution of acetone, anchovies and sea salt to restore the factory smell (have you ever smelled a factory where they mold plastic?). For a quick fix, velcroing a wunderbaum on it may be satisfactory.
To dry, place in a cement mixer with golf balls and confetti. A stuffed parrot will not hurt but it's use is more customary than scientifically proven to improve color rendition.

Your particular camera maker may suggest other care instructions though so this is just a rough (reallllly rough) guide. Hey, it seemed like a good idea at the time..
 
Why mince about?

Most lens contaminents are either grease of fluff, both flamable ;)

I always find that leaving mine out for the council road cleaner usually does the trick. (TIP! make sure you place lens in the middle of the road othewise if it the sweeper actually goes over the lens with its tyres, you get too much barrel distortion in future pictures!). However, i have noticed tiny specs of dust on the lens afterwards, When this happens, i usually find my off-hand grinder removes the dust effectivey, then i picky up
some T-cut, and apply sparingly before using my Porter Cable car polisher. I then finish off with a wax, and seal using Carnuba based wax, and a silicon sealer - again buffed off with my Porter Cable car polisher;)

There is something to be said for venting though, especially if you are passionate about some inanimate objects and someone willfully destroys them :) Sometimes it's just impossible to reply in good form :bonk:

Reminds me of the recovery job I went out to for a guy whose Metro had ground to a halt on a busy dual carraigeway. He wasn't all that sure why the car had broken down, until I pointed out the large hole in the gearbox where one of the conrods had made a bid for freedom.

Seemingly he'd just had his car serviced, but he said that when he took the oil filler cap off he couldn't see any oil, so bought some and topped it up - right to the top of the rocker cover.......:nuts:

And people wonder why some drivers get irate with others - sometimes I think that unless you drive a nice car and know how to maintain it (you know: 'drivers' as opposed to 'car-owners'...), you should take the bus and leave the roads to people who know how to use and enjoy them.
