We have a couple of dust/artefact spots in pretty much all 3 of our 70-200mm canon lenses, they are getting on a bit now, but have never come off the cameras and never been outside so are in great condition, worth getting them cleaned, or is it time to retire them ?, (we have never had a lens cleaned so no idea ho much)

Are the dust/artefact spots to which you refer visible in any of your photographs, or causing a discernible drop in image quality? If not, then why bother, unless your lenses are stored in humid/damp conditions where the dust may become food for lens fungus?

You have "dust/artefact spots"? Where are you seeing them? In the lens or on the image? If the latter, it's more likely that the dust is on the sensor than in the lens.

If you have dust in the lens, it is extremely unlikely to be visible on the image. In extreme conditions it is possible in an ultra-wide angle lens, but not in a telephoto. But if the dust is in the lens and you want to do something about it anyway, Canon will happily strip them down and clean them for you. It's not expensive.

However, do check where the dust is first.
