Looking for a portrait lens have totally confused myself (not hard) with all the different ones, I`m wanting a 50mm or 85mm 1.4 or 1.8 mainly to take people and dog photos, I have a nikon D100 and want it to fit that.

Have found lens but am not sure what the difference is between them;-

FX lens Nikon 50mm f/1.4 D NAF at £249.95
" 50mm f/1.8 D NAF at £109.95

Can anyone tell me what the difference a 50mm f1.4G AFS is to the above two.

Sorry to be so silly but am new to this and have want to get the right lens.

Cheers

The f/1.4 AF-D is a faster version of the f/1.8 AF-D and has rounded aperture blades that renders much nicer bokeh and is of course is an f/1.4 (a much nicer lens all together). But they both require a body with a focus motor. The AF-S f/1.4 is the new boy that has a built in AF motor so is a bit faster to focus, although as these are little primes they are all fast focusing really... As long as the body has an AF motor for the AF-D lenses. From the two you list I'd def have the f/1.4
