Looking at getting one of these so my question is what type do I go for max I can go to is £150 been looking at the Jessops one but with the situation they are in now I'm having doubts also been looking on eBay I know I need to get one with contacts on to help with auto focus but apart from that I'm lost my camera is a d300 .

Hi Mark, avoid the Jessops ones like the plague, you dont say for which lenses you will be using it with which is more important than which camera, but for £150 youre ruling out a Nikon one so Kenko is the best choice.

Kenko Teleplus pro 3000 1.4x DGX is a steal at £110 new and approx £80 used

The main question is what lens are you intending to connect it to? (there's are large number of lenses that don't work with a TC and also it depends on the lens).

You lose 1-fstop of light with a 1.4x TC 2-stops of light with a 2x TC. On the Nikon they don't have the limitations of the comsumer models where by you lose autofocus capability above f5.6 unless you have a 1D series camera

Personally I would match TC to lens, so nikon lens + nikon TC, but with money constraints the only other range of TC I would buy would be Kenko.

70-200mm f2.8 with 1.4x becomes 98-280mm f4
70-200mm f2.8 with 2.0x becomes 140-400mm f5.6

300mm f? with 1.4x becomes 420mm f?
300mm f? with 2.0x becomes 600mm f?

But the 2x TC will seriously effect autofocus and image IQs

You just said you had a Tamron 300mm but didn't specify which one but you lose 1f-stop with a 1.4 and 2f-stops with a 2x TC.

Would totally forget about putting a TC on that lens, not sure if any of the TCs would fit anyway. A TC really designed for fast prime lenses that can handle the lost of f-stop not the consumer lenses like the tamron, if it did work you would be manual focus only and f11 with a 2x TC and would need perfect light conditions.

Stick with the 70-200mm and TCs
