Is it possible to get lens covers like the camoflage ones, but in a plain colour?

Depends what lens but you can get black and white neoprene covers for the super teles. Most lens covers that are camo on one side are green on the other.

I'm looking for a cover for a non-IS 300 2.8. Would prefer a plain black cover if one exists.

Wildlife watching supplies supply their covers in black/white reversible. If they don't do one in the right size ask as I have heard people get them made to order.

That would have been my suggestion too if I'd gotten back here sooner. Kevins covers are great for the price. I prefer them to the (more expensive) LensCoats
