Had a Tamron 18-270 on the second of June. Took it back to shop last week as it had terrible lens creep .They sent it to Tamron received it back on Monday on the repair order they day they have replaced a gear but now the zoom is very stiff taken about 30 images since Monday and the lens creep is already back if you hold the camera vertical and zoom to 270 within ten to 20 seconds its at 18mm.
This cant be normal can it do you think I should ask for a new lens?
 
It's perfectly normal for this type of lens.
 
I had lens creep with a Tamron 24-135mm, i bought one of those elastic creep bands from Ebay and it cured the problem, however it did make the zoom stiffer.
 
I'm guessing the bigger the zoom length the bigger the problem gets.never seen the lens bands before but it looks like a simple solution.

I must admit I have been a prime lens user for a long time with a couple of short zooms as back up. They were mainly on the shorter focal lengths too.
 
It's a very common characteristic - that's why there's a zoom-lock switch.

It can be very irritating I agree. Maybe look at the newer Tamron 16-300, that is a significant improvement in a number of areas and is probably the best super-zoom currently available, including a zoom barrel that stays pretty much where you left it.
 
My Canon 15-85 has recently started to creep, but only when it is about half extended, (I.E past 50mm), sadly there is no lock on this lens...:(
 
Is it really a problem? My 150-600 creeps if I forget to put the lock on and just leave it hanging on the strap but beyond the risk of bashing it I don't see it as a big deal.
