So i have been mulling over various kit reshuffles and have settled in favour of keeping my D700 and selling the D2X, Nikon 24-70, 80-200 afs and the 35 dx 1.8.

I have realised that the D700 is everything that i need, the D2x is surpluss to requirements, the 24-70 is my perfect lens but too big and heavy to take everywhere and the 80-200 is longer than i need for 90% of the things i shoot.

My intention is to have a 3 lens setup consisting of only primes.
The reason being, i have felt more comfortable and focused when using the D2x and 35mm setup.

I intend to replace the long end with a 135 f2 dc but am struggling with what to use at the wide/ mid range.

24mm and 50mm seem the obvious choices to fill the gaps but does anyone have a similar setup that could advise?
 
Trying to reduce quantity of kit as its hobby not work so 2nd body not necessary.

Looking through my past photos i didnt have many in the 85 range. Not sure id miss it if it wasnt in that second line up.
 
A good copy of the tamron 28-75 on the d700 would be very good as a lightweight catch all
 
If I could bring myself to ditch everything else 28/1.8, 50/1.8, 105/2.8 would pretty much do me on my D700. When I can't be bothered swapping lenses it's an 18-35 or a 28-105.
 
Thanks Shaheed, i have heard good things about the 28-75 but im going try the prime only route for the forseeable future.

Do you own the 28 1.8 Dave?
 
That 28 looks like one to consider.
I did use the wide end of the 24-70 a lot for landscapes, just wondering if id be left wanting wider if 28 was all i had?
 
The biggest reason for selling it is that the majority of my photographs are now taken on weekend walks with the family.
Carrying the d700 with 24-70 feels too much of a burden when running round with my 3 yr old and carrying/pushing 6 month old with all the bags etc.

If i do regret it later on down the line, i can always find another.

Whatever lens you have, if it has only one focal length you sometimes wish it was longer or shorter! You just have to get out of the mentality of wanting to cover all options and concentrate on working with what you've got. There's always the 24/2.8 (or 1.4 if you have the scratch!) if you want wider and small/light.
