Lens filter thread problem - suggestions?

Hi all,

Apologies if I posted this in the wrong thread (Equipment seemed reasonable).

I have a bit of an issue with the filter thread on my Nikkor 50mm f1.2 (see photos and description below) and I was wondering if anyone had a similar issue before.

I dropped the lens a while ago (I know, I know) and luckily none of the optics were damaged, however the filter thread took a bit of a beating. It hasn't been that much of an issue when using standard filters, but recently we've been attaching an anamorphic lens to the thread (via an anamorphic clamp). The weight of this coupled with the bent thread causes the lens to pop out occasionally (really don't want to drop that one).

At the moment the thread works, but you have to force it a bit and it's not very secure.

I was wondering if anyone's got any suggestions on how to bend this element back a bit, so the thread can be used again. Alternatively, maybe anyone knows of a way/service to change the front element of the lens to a new one?

Any help will be much appreciated.

Why not just send it to the Nikon service centre at Kingston? It doesn't look like an expensive repair.

Have you dealt with them before? What's the turnaround time like?

Got a shoot on the 29th of this month, hence hoping to have it fixed before then.
 
I deal with Nikon service all the time. They're pretty good, but not always very quick.

My most recent one was a lens with impact damage which I sent on Monday 10th March. I received an acknowledgement on Wednesday 12th with an estimated completion date of Tuesday 25th.

Prior to that I sent two lenses (one with a jammed zoom, one with a squeaky zoom) on Friday 28th Feb. The acknowledgements came on Tuesday 4th March, both with estimated completion dates of Monday 17th; and a couple of hours ago I was notified that the repairs are complete, so that's one working day early.

Realistically, if you send it off on Monday 17th you probably won't get it back by Saturday 29th, unless you contact them in advance and persuade them that it is both important and urgent. Or if you're an NPS member you should get a speedier service too.
 
my dad repaired a similer damaged lens for me, made a couple of pieces tofit inside thread, and then a piece for outside, then used a chuck off a lathe to gently ease it out.

but you lens looks more mangled :-(

you could try a step up filter and tape it up, then a step down to go back to the right size, as a work around
