Hi i am having some lens flare issues at the moment. Is there any way to actively reduce the chance of lensflare when shooting into the light?

If the light source is directly hitting the front element of the lens and is within the field of view then there is little to be done.

However if the light source is not within the field of view of the lens, but is coming at too narrow an angle for the lens hood to deal with it then try puting your camera on a tripod/support and use something like a large (ish) piece of card or similar to put your camera in shade. Not perfect, but better than nothing.

If you feel steady enough you can hold the camera in one hand and the card etc. in the other.

thanks for the advice i will give that a go, it wont darken the image then if the camera is in shade?

Yeah, definitely! They're good for protection as well, keeping the weather off the front element, as well as flare. Also, are you using a filter, as filters (especially cheap ones) can cause huge flare issues.

What lens are you using? The official lens hoods are extortionately priced, you can buy cheap rubber extendable ones for about a tenner I think?

Agreed these will save you some cash, but cold hard plastic could save your front element, use for lens flair 25 percent, use for protection 100 percent, and if you have UV filter you can then whip that off too...
