Ok im looking to buy a new lens for home portraits using my new lencarta smartflash kit when i eventually get it lol, will be using this lens in peoples homes ect and i feel a zoom will be better because of limited space ect, so id like advice on which to buy, i could just about afford the 24-105mm, but is there any other suggestions before i buy...Also has anyone got shots of portraits i could see using a 24-105mm on a 40d or similar 1.6x crop body ( cmos).

Definitely recommend a 24-105 - if you're using studio flash there's no advantage to having an f/2.8 lens as you'll usually be up at f/8-f/11. Having the 105 at the long end is useful to close in for head shots.

I'll dig out some shots....

Sorry, all the ones I can find are from a moody nude shoot and were taken on 1D3 (1.3x crop) so not directly comparable, but the 24-105 is super sharp, great build and a useful FL range for indoor portraits.

I have the older Lencarta flash kits that they sold on eBay - they are black cylindrical affairs. In terms of use though, they seem little different to the most recent model - my neighbour has the more modern ones and although they look prettier they do the same job!
