You would have been better putting this in the Talk Sports section.

A lot depends on your budget and how often you'll be doing it.

If you can walk the sidelines then a 70-200 is great. Budget wise if you can afford it, the f2.8 Mk II.

If that is too much, then in the For sale section the Mk 1 are for sale fairly often.

Or if that's too much then the F4 (no need for the IS model) for sports, but the IS may be useful to you for other things.

If you will be behind the Try line, then a 300/2.8 is great but expensive. You can get the very old Non IS model for £1000 to £1500.

If you have good light then the 300 F4 will do.
