Hi, I recently Purchased a Canon 550D for taking pictures of my family, friends and pets. I will also be backpacking around Italy so I will also need a lens for landscape and city shots.

All in all I need 2 lenses to cover these conditions and my budgest is about £1000.

I really like sharpness, especially for people shots.

Thanks, hope I explained well enough?

Kevin :)

Anyone know if Tamron 17-55 would be a good lens for people shots?

and anyone have experience with the canon 70-200 f4 L (non IS)

I use Nikon but I have a Tamron 17-50mm which I use for people shots and it is a good lens.

What I’d recommend though is getting a 17-40mm L lens for the landscapes and a 70-200mm F4 for the people. You can still use the 17-40mm for people as long as you are willing to accept a little distortion but with that combination you’ll have great flexibility for a wide range of shots. I’m not sure you’d manage it within your £1,000 budget though, you may have to stretch to about £1,200.

Alternatively you could buy the lens you'd use the most and rent the other - or rent both.

Whatever you do check what price Kerso can do, can't recommend him highly enough.

15-85 IS USM might cover all your needs in one package and leave you plenty of change for a flashgun too for any low light requirements.
