Lens guess

Looks like a Nikkor 50mm AFS f1.4G to me. Could be the f1.8.

This is the Nikon 50mm afs1.4g lens . The top is different to the OP's photo. the top does not have what looks like a metal plate unless it is an early edition. Another difference is the distance between the switch and the knurled ring and the switch size as well

Looks like a prime lens to me with just one knurled focus ring there is not another for mm alteration

Its a bit odd, as I'm sure the shortest lens that Nikon do that has that metal plate on top is the 70-200.

Is it a trick question?

It is a bit odd, for sure. Genuine question, as I was looking online at stuff, but there was only info about the camera. I have sent a mail to the seller, but yet to hear back.

I see what you mean. The top plate does look a different colour in the OP's photo at least. It is a different texture on the latest AFS f1.8 50mm, but still black.

Of course just because it has a Nikon end cap does not mean it is a Nikon Lens it could well be some other make
Different view

Please ignore the way i have presented it
Of course it might even be a pre production version the OP photo doesn't show it clearly enough. The camera itself looks like an old 35mm Nikon film camera which leads me to think of the lens being of the same period
Sherlock ( Realspeed) Holmes is on the case
