Hiya guys im currently in the market for a new lens i have around £450 to spend and was wondering wether to go for the canon 70-200 f/4 usm non is or the tamron 17-50 mm 2.8 .

I know these are two very different lenses but i shoot nearly only portraits these days and have been making do with a 50mm f1.8 and need a bit more range.

I was thinking of getting the canon 70-200mm and saving for the tamron at later date but what you guys think?

Well the 70-200 used between the 70 and 100 will be a great portraite lens as cyclone says and the rest can be used for future projects.

You have a 50 and 18-55 in my opinion would waste you're money on the 17-50.

Towershot is then taken outside the forum and stoned by 17-50 Tamron owners...............:suspect::D:D:D

the 17-50 is very sharp and at 2.8 would be idea in low light situations and the 18-55 is hardly used these days due to the sharpness of the 50mm 1.8

but i see what you mean i just feel the 18-55 isnt sharp enough for me.

I am tempted to get the 70-200 had a play with it at a recent shoot with a mate and i was very impressed with the quality.

This is one of the shots i pulled off with this lens

This was at the 184mm mark at f/5.6
