lens hire for thurxton bsb

right i am heading to thruxton for the bsb at the end of the month, i only have the nikon 55-200mm lens and wanted to buy the Nikon AF-S 70-300mm, but i don`t really have the funds, so i am going to hire a lens, £35 is not bad, but with out spending loads is there another lens i should hire that would be better for my D5000?????????

Do you know how far away you'll be? I have the 70-300 and it's a great lens but sometimes 300mm just isn't enough. Maybe a Sigma 500mm...

300mm is more than enough for Thruxton as you are quite close to the action.

I've used both my 55-250 IS and 70-200 there without feeling the need for more.

BUT - if you really feel the need to hire a lens for the day make the most of it and get something with reach as the more reach you have the more flexible you can be with your track-side position.

Its a great lens, very sharp with accurate AF. You should be OK - at F5.6 anything longer would be almost impossible to hand hold as well. Just get a good position (try the hill by the complex where they slow down and bunch up a lot) and you should get some great shots.
