Lens hood hatch?

Hi

I have a couple of lenses for my Samsung camera and both lens hoods (the 18-55 has a petal hood and the 50-200 has a cone) and both have small sections which can be slid off, I wondered what they were for? They make removing the side pinch lens caps easier to remove, but that's all I can think of?

You can see the little 'hatch' on this picture - the little section with the arrow slides backwards leaving an empty square maybe 2cx2cm

Yup, its for filter adjustment, all my Pentax lenses have it.
