Lens hoods confuse me!

Im sat here wondering..

Why is the lens hood on a 24-70mm 2.8L Longer than the 24-105mm 4.0L When this one has a longer zoom? Confusion

Because the hood stays at the same place and the 24-70mm extends as it gets wider. The perfect hood!

They both extend though? Still a little confused lol.. :/

Ahhhh i now understand! What would happen if i used the 24-70 hood on the 24-105?

Well you'd be using a 70mm hood when shooting at 24mm.... Plus I doubt the diameter is the same because the 24-105mm fits onto the extending bit not the fixed barrel.

As said before the 24-70L hood is a great design. If you try it on the 24-105 I image all you would get is terrible vignette as the hood is not designed for the lens.
