Lens knocked off table

Disaster struck this morning, my Nikon 18-55 kit lens got knocked off the kitchen table on to the tiled floor. Only visible damage was on the rim/filter thread just a slight kink in thread, some coating come off iside of thread. Skylight filter took a knock, seemed jammed on but I have got it off. Thread seems intact. Not sure what to do now, it seems to focus ok was worried it was struggling but not realy sure. maual focus also ok. not sure really if it is making a different noise on AF, its certainly not "crunchy or grindy"

What do you think I should do, keep hold off it and see how it goes or send it off and try it on as warranty? no really obious dings in it.

Only had it 3 months, not even registered the warranty yet!!

You could try the warranty - they estimate it first - but if there's nothing physically wrong with it, and its focus is ok etc - what are you going to tell them is wrong with it?
 
I'd see if it works OK first. If it's working OK it probably is OK.

Besides....

it would be a little dishonest to try to make a warranty claim on a lens that you dropped yourself. Dropping a lens is an accident and should be an insurance claim if anything. :-)

But let's hope it's OK and you won't have to do anything with it.
 
Would it not be fairly obvious that the lens had been dropped, given the dent on the top? .....using the warranty sounds pretty silly to me.
 
The techs at Nikon will know the difference between damage and fault.
 
cheers guys, I think i'll see how it goes in use. it's not real obvious damage. if it starts playing up I'll think again.
