Lens - Macro Addon's Which/What?

I have a set of extension tubes, they are a good option but you do lose light so need to get the flash to the front of the lens.
I have never tried them with any type of zoom lens so not sure how well the work.
I'm hoping to make the Exbury meet in June so you can always try them out if you want. Did have a quick play with the Raynox things at the last meet, courtesy of Alby, but I couldn't get on with them.

I used to swear by the Raynox DCR250 adaptor, some people struggle with it due to it's stupidly narrow DOF but if you master it the results are nowt short of amazing... Here's a link to the Raynox FlickR group for some ideas of what it can do: Clicky Here

If you can master the Raynox then a dedicated macro lens will be a doddle to use, plus it simply clips on the front of your zoom lens so you can simply carry it around and pop it on if you spot a macro shot.

Thanks Ingrid & Carl for your feed back.

I have been looking on ebay and found this

Are they worth it?

Can't vouch for that particular make BUT looks very good for the price.. Just be aware that with extension tubes you get a lot of light falloff so the more tubes you have on the darker your viewfinder will be (so you'll need decent ambient light) and flash will be essential. The AF ability is not a real boon as most macro stuff is done purely MF but the ability to meter and set your aperture are a big plus with these. PLUS if you do get a dedicated macro lens you can add these for even more magnification :bonk:

Not heard of that make, mine are Kenko and attached to a 105 macro lens they are amazing.
As for lighting, if you have a Nikon Flash that can be used off camera then

http://www.speedgraphic.co.uk/prod.asp?i=4367&1=Hama+Flash+Bracket+(plastic)

is possibly the cheapest way to get the flash to the front of the lens using the D90 in commander mode

I use something similar to maintain a greater depth of field

I'm hoping to get there too and have a spare sigma 105 macro you can play with for the day if you like so don't rush out and buy things for the day, try it all out then decide what you need :D
