Yes
Hi Guys,

When I half press the shutter button, my lens seems to make a little whirring noise. As though a motor is spinning.

I am guessing that this is normal and something to do with the focus?

Thanks.

Is your battery fully charged?

My 70-200 made some fairly alarming noises when I first got it, then I changed batteries and it was near silent.

Is IS that noisy? I only have a 18-55 and a 75-300, neither with IS. Hoping to upgrade soon.

Thanks

Yup IS can make a feint wirring noise, my 24-105L does and so does my 100-400L

The first time I heard it on my 70-200 IS I thought it was knackered, it was during the winter and I was shooting through a window and the front of the barrel touched the glass now that is a scary noise. Turned the IS off and discovered what it was.

Ah ok, so it's quite noticable then? SO if I buy an IS lens I shouldn't worry too much about the noise?

Reg,

I wouldn't say it was noticeable, I've had my lens for a week and I only noticed today when shooting indoors with no TV on or any other noise.
