HI guys,

I am new to this foum (basically I comment on some of the post in these few days)

But my current stuggle is:

I am using 7D with 70-200 4 IS ..... this combination is good except doing some close up (or nearly macro) shooting
I mean in terms of image quality ....

SO

I am thinking of either get a 100m macro (either L or non L version)
or
an extra 5D mark 1 which I had before (but didnt have 70-200 4 IS at that moment)


Which combination can produce better image quality?
I love the 7D so I will definitely keep it....
 
How keen are you on true macro photography. If the answer is 'really keen' then I would unhesitatingly suggest either of the two 100mm macro lenses. (I have the new IS version and it is superb). If it's a choice between the two bodies and the one lens, or two lenses and the 7D then I would say get the macro lens. 2 lenses will widen your options more than an extra body.
 
I can't see what buying the 5Dc would do for improving close ups with the 70/200 the MFD and magnification are specific to the lens so if you want to focus closer and with higher magnification then you need a macro lens.
I have not used the new L macro as I find the original is fine so its down to personal choice and cash.
Also you will get a pretty good f2.8 lens which takes decent portraits,although there are better specific portrait lenses.
 
I'd say get the macro lens I have the L version and it is absolutely great. It will give you great macro and you can use it for anything else too. 5D really won't do anything in terms of close up.

Sorry for the hijack,I was thinking of a 100mm f2.8 is for portrait's but the cost is putting me off. I was looking at a24-70 f2.8 to replace my 24-105 f4 what do you think:bonk:
 
I've never owned the 24 - 70. It was a choice between that and the 24 -105 and I plumped for the extra reach of the latter. From what I have read, Ireally don't think there is much difference n the IQ of the two lenses and the 24 - 105 is lighter which might be a consideration.
 
How are you achieving macro distances with that lens at the moment, and what are your image quality issues specifically? Can you post a pic?

Why emphasis close up or nearly maco shooting ...

the pixels are larger in 7D, its not that obvious in any wide open or portrait shots but in macro....
in macro photography (specially when the background is totally black) the DoF looks nice, but when you zoom in the photo and you will see dots of pixels...
I think its a drawback of 7D though...

SO my concern is whether 5D will do better with 70-200 4 IS or should I try a macro lens that 1:1 may compensate the pixel problem


BUT as most of you guys said the 100 macros are so great .... may be I will try the non-L version
 
I'm asking about macro because that's where you said the problem was. Do you mean that you are zooming in on the computer and seeing pixels at very high magnification? Well, you will, if you go far enough - it will happen with any camera and any lens, with any subject.

Not sure if I'm understanding you correctly but it sounds like you need to shoot closer. A macro lens will do that, or you could use extension tubes on your existing lens. That's what I use for macro on the same lens as you have, and quality is very good. It's not macro lens quality, but pretty damn good at anything up to 1:1.

You haven't explained clearly what it is you are doing, and what is wrong. There are contradictions in your post, such as the 7D which actually has the smallest pixels of any DSLR. You need to identify the problem exactly to get the right answer.
 
YEA.....honestly I am too picky on the zooming in process!!! Think am zooming more than 1:1 magnification haha!!!

I know 7D has high mage pix and they are small...I am sure that 5D mark 2 has better PQ!
Anyway.... the problem is there were dots (either noise or pixel dots) all over the pixture!
I assume that HOPPYUK you said correctly that I should try shoot closer....should rent or borrow one and have a try!!
