I have recently acquired a lens that is not in the best of condition on the exterior. Whats the best way to bring it back to life?

I saw somewhere that someone had converted a Nikon lens to the Canon gray, not say I want that colour, but the idea is there.

Ideas? Suggestions?

I tried google and came up with Light Painting.

Hi Graham. I don't know about other colours but canon do a patch up paint, for covering scratches etc, maybe if you find out what the paint is ie enamal etc you'd have a starting point to look for similar based paints!. Kind regards Graham.

Marker pens usually do a good enough job on things. Never tried it on a lens but it works fine on my tennis rackets and they're pretty much the same thing when it comes down to it.

Is it a Nikon lens?

You can get the crackle finish black in a spray can. It is used for engines and is a heat proof paint. Just need to be careful with your masking!

Thanks Graham, will have a look for that.

Yeah I do that on my squash rackets... not sure it will work here...

Are you sure you didn't see a Nikon lens in the tropical grey they produce some of their lenses in.

the rubber grip lifted a bit on my 80-200L and I glued it back down

can of spray paint and skillfull masking should be great

Any paint you spray on isn't going to last very long before it starts to wear and chip off, unless you handle it like an egg.

i bought a sigma with a knackered coating on recently, i just bunged a lenscoat on it..

trouble is the sigma coating is kinda rubberised so i can imagine its hard to repair..

thats what I figured...

you got a pic of the lens coat?
