Is it possible for over polarisation? Happened to me over the weekend everything is over saturated and overly blue. Looked okay in live view but once I got home it was a different story
 
It is subjective tbh. If my failing memory serves me, the amount of polarisation is finite and depends on the position of the light source and the polarising lens. Maximum is achieved at right angles and iirc all polarisers produce the same amount. I think you answered your own question though in as much that for you, it was too much :)
 
I think I’ll be very careful next time as you can’t go back once you press that shutter, ruined my shot just as well it was not that important
