Lens Problem.. Sigma 30mm.

Yes
Went out the other day with a bit of time to try my new lens out (I have tried them out at home and all seemed well)
Anyway I spent 30mins with my Canon 15-85 taking shots and all was well, then the Sigma 10-20 and the same result all was well.
I then put the Sigma 30mm prime on and the focal screen just said I cant shoot in this mode so not knowing what to do I took the lens off put the 10-20 back on and all was OK.
Later I was having a cup of coffee and I thought I would try the 30mm again so I fitted it back on the camera and took a shot but it seemed to take ages before the camera took the shot, so I took the lens back off.
The next day I took the camera out side with the 15-85 on and took a shot and it was perfect.
I then tried the 30mm again and would you believe then was perfect too, so that was very odd.

But why the glitch do you think.. should I be worried?

Cheers.

If that doesn't work, I'd return the lens for a replacement as soon as - you say you went to play with your new lens - I presume this is the 30mm ?

Is it new to you or a brand new lens ?

Its both Andy, I've only used it 3 times and its about 3 weeks old, the Sigma 10-20 I got at the same time is perfect..

PS I'm off out to dinner as we speak so I might take it with me an have another go..

Cheers

Just a thought, you don't have to be taking the lens somewhere to test it...

What do you mean by the 'focal screen' saying 'you can't shoot in this mode'?

What mode were you in? What was you aperture set to?

My guess:

Bearing in mind I wasn't there and I don't know your camera;
The AF was switched off on the lens, and the camera was set to not fire without confirming focus.

As I went to take a shot I looked through the view finder and a message said 'You cant shoot in this mode' which I have never seen before, and as far as I can remember it was in Autofocus..

The only reeason I took the camera out dinner time was so someone else could take a shot or two and I didnt tell my mate of the problem and I wanted to see if it happened again.. which it didn't, so very odd.

This was taken dinner time and my mate took it and it seems OK..
