Lens Question - Quality Control?

Hi everyone, I've heard people mention when getting a new lens whether it's a sharp or soft copy, whats this all about!?

Surely paying lots of dosh for a lens you expect it to be right, is it a quality control issue or am I missing something? If so, what is it and if you do get a soft copy, will the shop happily exchange it? How would you know and prove it, 100% crop?

lenses are mass produced, some take small knocks in transport storage etc etc. you are being a bit unrealistic to expect 100% of products to be perfect. most shops will exchange or refund if you complain soon enough. or the manufacturer will recalibrate it for you

So recalibrating would make the lens a 'sharp copy' from a 'soft copy'?

It should do. But if you send the camera with it, they will calibrate the lens to the camera. Then it should be spot on.
