Lens reccomendation

So after quite abit of research, I am buying a 450D this weekend, I'm getting it with the IS kit lens.

The kind of photos I am looking to take are that of street photography, some landscapes, so I'm looking a lens with some good width and length.

Have read good things about the sigma 17-77 , but think I would like more length, any insight would be great!

Why don't you take some pics with the kit lens and decide after that if you really need more width or reach?

I would sell the kit lens while its new and start with a couple of decent 2nd hand quality lenses - to my mind the lit lenses are not great
I guess its down to how much cash you want to be spending the 70-200mm F4 non IS would blow any kit lens into oblivion add a nifty 50mm F1.8 and some great lenses for not too much outlay

this is sound advice...firstly you are being a bit lens orientated without doing some constructive work with what you have

i play bass guitar and most newbies think you buy a bass...then change the pickups, strings, bridge, tuners and colour to get good tone
its in the fingers!!

same with cameras..its the fellow behind the lens

the lens you have would do me fine...i have a 17.5-45...which on a 4/3 is
35-90 35mm
so yours is i think...25-120?...a fair bit of scope for good imagery

Just get taking pictures with the kit you buy.

Kit lenses aren't the best of lenses on the lower end Canons but they aren't exactly rubbish either.

There's no point in buying a Sigma that virtually matches what you already have if focul length.

If you want something a bit wider take a look at the Tamron 18-250. I had one on a 350D for 3 years and shot literally 1000's of pictures. It was a fantastic all rounder, sharp and very little aberations.

For now though get out and about, see where your groove is and then decide what to buy next.

Remember that some great bargains pop up now and again. I've just replaced my 40D body that I sold a year ago and regreted with one off TP thats as minty fresh as the one I sold.
