I am new to these forums so 'hello'

I start shooting bands this year, and it has taken off a bit quicker then expected. I currently shoot with 50mm 1.8 which I own, or I sometimes borrow from my universities media store the 1.4, both of which are great lenses but I am starting to feel the restrictions of not having the ability to zoom in or out. I have a Canon EOS 30D aswell.

I have been searching around the internet loads for a lens that is quite budget, as I am only a student so don't have much money to spend.

I have been told of the following:
Sigma 24-70 (not the HSM, can't afford that)
Tamron 28-75
Tamron 17-50
Sigma - 70-200

Any help would be much appreciated. I am watching a couple of each lens on Ebay, but would rather get opinions before I go off and bid/buy anything :)

Thanks,

Justine:D

Sigma 50-700?....may want to check this one

As you already own a 50mm prime and have said that you feel restricted by the fact its a fixed focal length, the question is.....would you like to zoom in more than 50mm or zoom out less than 50mm?

If the answer is zoom in then that rules out the Tamron 17-50mm.

If it were me, I would be looking at either the Sigma 24-70mm F2.8 or the Tamron 28-75mm F2.8. Both have F2.8 throughout the range which will help in low light.

Best thing to do is google both lenses and read reviews on how they perform in low light and how fast the AF is
