I've never had to use Fixation, or the like for a lens repair up until now so thought it would be interested to see what recommendations and experiences you have.

I'll be putting my Nikon 85m 1.4 in for a service, get the aperture ring etc tightened up to bring it back up to great condition after which I'll sell it as I've moved 90% over to mirrorless (Still use my D600 but the 85mm has lost out to the Fuji 56mm 1.2 for work)

So who have you used and who would you recommend? I'm leaning towards dropping it at Calumet, who IIRC will use Fixation, based on what the chap at the Birmingham store said to me versus my bad memory.

Tough to get rid of this amazing lens but the poor chap needs somebody who will use it, after I get it serviced :)

Thanks in advance.

I used Don Clark as a recommendation from Clifton Cameras. He is at Wotton under Edge. Fixed my 24-105 within estimate and when he said it would be done. Worth a look.

Miles Whitehead in Kent. Quick and reasonably priced. I have used him and he provided a first class service. You should be able to find him with Google but also try MW camera repairs.

I emailed both, Miles has replied with a very reasonable quote and I'm just seeing what the next step is, ie to send it in... I imagine Don Clark will reply soon too but I think based on MW reputation and price, that I'll go with MW. Unless DC comes with some ridiculously good deal. I like the sound of Miles. Wish he was in driving distance, would be very good to have near.

Hi where are you in the country? Might help folks if you said where you were... Near Birmingham, I guess?

Yes, Birmingham. Figured it would be a post and wait kind of arrangement but yes, local would be amazing. MW have replied again so unless we see some other recommendations I'll give him a go, seems like a good bet!

Calumet are having an open day on 21st... Maybe you could ask them about reputable repair people?
