Yes
How much would it cost to repair the standard kit lens? ( canon ) , or would the cost be better spent towards a new lens.

After spending £800 on a new car ( my old one was getting old and breaking down ) then about 2months in , my camera lens broke and at the time could not afford a repair. I saved up some money to buy one then a serious issue came about with the car.. The diff in the gearbox broke , ended up having to have a gearbox rebuild and a new clutch which cost £600!. Drove down the road after picking it up , then the ignition pack went that's another £50.

I'm abit upset because i haven't done landscape photography for ages now , something i have always enjoyed is ruined. Sure i can do animal photography but without a car i was stuck. :(

Your best bet is to phone a well known repair centre, like Fixation in London, and describe what the lens is/isn't doing... they can then suggest possible causes and associated costs. For us to say it will cost £xxx is just not possible from your post.

For example, if the AF system is not working, it could be a new motor required at say £150.

Yes, it does depend rather on which kit lens the OP is talking about for sure.

Although from the post, you can tell the car failure hurt :(

Edit:
18-55 it was then. Cheap and plentiful s/h

Ordered the new Lens ( canon 18-55mm IS ) , should hopefully be 2 weeks. £60 :)

So expect new photography within the next two weeks
