Lens repair?

I have a Nikon 400mm AFS 1 2.8 IF ED...
It works fine but I think needs AF calibration. I carried it all the way to Nikon's nearest authorised centre in Stoke-on-Trent. They told me that they don't deal with repair/servicing of the lens anymore, as this version has been discontinued.
Are there any non-authorised but reliable lens repair shops/centres in the UK?

How odd. I've never had Nikon refuse to service a lens or body just because it's a discontinued model. Why not try their service centre direct? You can find the address details on the Nikon web site and download an order form too.
 
The Stoke-On-Trent shop is an authorised service and repair centre. They said that Nikon discontinues repair and service of certain lenses after some years. So I had to return, dazed and confused, with my lens. They did keep my AFS 17-35 2.8. Weirdly, my AFS 1 IF ED 400mm 2.8, which was introduced in 1998, is now on its own.. :-/
 
With the D7000, the lens isn't as fast as it used to focus with my D700.

I felt that maybe it was an af issue, but using it with other cameras, a D90 and a D700, it works pretty well.
I shall email Fixation and see if they calibrate it... Maybe parts availability is the reason why they refused...
