I had the misfortune to drop my camera bag today, when i got my camera out the lens wasnt situated properly, it was moving in 2 places. On closer inspection i have managed to break two of the plastic lugs. My questions are:-

1. Is it worth getting fixed, it's a Nikon 18-105 kit £220-£250

2. If i were to fix it where would i take it? Jessops, Jacobs or local camera shop?

3. If it cant be fixed should i get another kit lens or something different?

any advise welcome

I emailed the link above, they have asked me to send the lens off to assess the repair and quote me a price, the quote is free of charge but has anybody used this place, if i decide not to repair with them will they send the lens back without charge or will i get billed? along with the postage to them this in itself starts bumping the charge up. oh what to do:thinking:

I would definitely ask them before you send it off. I have not used them myself but I would imagine they'll send it back and just charge the postage if the repair is not cost effective.
There seem to be a few Nikon 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6 ED VR lenses from reputable sellers on ebay from under £200 inc. delivery at the moment, just so you can judge what an ecomomic repair might be.
Just another thought are you not covered by any insurance on this accident, camera specific, household or otherwise?

You would need to check your household policy to see if the lens is covered. I suspect it would have to be named on the policy as a seperate item together with the lens serial number.

I have all my camera gear insured with a specialist camera insurance company, and every bit of kit insured, where possible, has the serial number listed. I presume to prevent fraud.
