lens reversal ring/adapters

ive been wondering about these for a while now,whether to get one or not and start experimenting,but first i thought i would ask here if anyone uses one and if you have found them useful or not.also what lens you have found works well with them or any particular lenses that dont work with them.

any useful comments you would like to make

also if images are allowed in the thread could you share any taken using one

my assumption is they may be a useful and a cheaper option for Micro/Macro use

I have a £3 one from ebay for my nikon. I use an old pentax zoom and can get up to 2x magnification. I would recommend and older lens with a manual aperture ring or you'll be stuck shooting at 1 aperture.

You can see what the effect will be by hand-holding the extra lens.
It's a bit fiddly but gives surprisingly good results.
All the reversing ring adds is to free your hand to do something else.

I bought a cheap reversing ring from eBay and it didn't fit either lens that was meant to go onto it. So I didn't pursue the reversing ring thing.
I ended up getting a set of macro tubes in a club auction for near beer money; they are producing excellent results.

There's a trick you can use to set the aperture - works on Canons, dunno about the OP Sony.
Use the DoF preview button to move the aperture blades to the desired position, then unscrew the lens. The aperture blades stay put!

your suggestion on older m/f lenses with manual aperture ring was my thoughts exactly as i have several of these

macro tubes are another option im considering,and also close-up filters too.im looking at all the cheaper options to get macro/micro images at both a cost effective price without hopefully loss of image quality


so comments based on your experience on all these options are welcome

Hi,

I've got the coupler .. and put one 105mm against the 50mm... Gave the same magnification as the 105 + tubes. But working distance tended to be a lot smaller.

Might work better with a 200mm and a 50mm? At the 3-5 ukp for a try, worth a punt, and if you do get, please post up some pics
