Lens scratch?

Hi

I was cleaning one of my lenses this morning and found that there was a small mark (not sure if its a scratch) about 2mm long. It's as if its slightly discoloured, perhaps golden in colour. I think it could be a mark in the coating.

Is this a problem? Or do we just have to accept marks on the lenses sometimes?
 
Usually not a problem. Extremely rare for a small 2mm scratch to show up in photos - someone posted a vid or pic on here of a rental lens that was literally battered and it still took ok shots!
 
As has been said - look through lenses not at them.

I tiny mark will make very little difference, heck you can cover half the front element and still take OK images.

I bought an 85 f1.8 with a tiny mark on it and I've never been able to find any trace of the mark on any shot at any aperture. The guy I bought it off said I could return it if it was a problem and I got it for a great price due to the mark, which is tiny anyway, and the IQ is fantastic. I seriously doubt you will see anything of the mark in your photos.

As Paul said, there's a video (on LensRentals site I think) about of a lens with a totally smashed front element that still takes decent shots.
