Is there a serial number on the Nikon 18-200?

Should be on end of the lens where it connects into the camera body

Serial numbers are never easy to find on Nikon equipment. You have to look very carefully sometimes.

Yes usually on the bottom near the mount, and also on the white / yellow warranty slip.

on my 18-200 it's a very feint engraving in front of the focussing ring, directly above where it says nikon on the bottom

Is it on the band that has the focal length numbers stamped on it? I've got an 18-135 and they're stamped very faintly on this directly opposite the gold Nikon DX lettering.

That is feint, I know my eyes are past their best but I had to get a magnifying glass to see it clearly
