I have a Nikon 17-55 f2.8G DX lens that is in good need of a service. Can anyone recommend me a reliable service centre and any idea of costs please.
Thanks.
Thanks.
Nikon UK are pretty reliable. Impossible to estimate costs though, without even the vaguest idea of what's wrong with the lens.
OK, that's quite common with Nikon zooms. I've seen that a lot, and if you can wait until I'm in the office next week I may be able to dig out some data to give you a feel for the cost. The focus and zoom ring feel stiff and rough to rotate... .
Almost certainly not worth worrying about, but if they have to take the lens apart to lubricate the zoom and focus rings then they'll remove any internal dust as part of the service.... and there is some dust inside the front element...
You can buy these from Nikon spare parts and fit them yourself. They're not expensive. Or they'll do it as part of the service if you ask; the labour cost will be minimal....and the focus and zoom ring rubbers are coming away.
Good. That means it hopefully shouldn't be too expensive to repair. (Unless the zoom / focus problems were caused by impact damage, in which case the sky's the limit on costs.)... the lens auto focuses no problem and the focus motor is not noisy.
