Lens situation...HELP

Hi all,

Just after Christmas I purchased a Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 HSM EX DG Macro and have loved it from day one.

Then I opted for a Sigma 1.4x EX DG TC to give me a little more reach, giving 280mm at f/4.

I am getting very into Wildlife and require a longer reach. I got the 70-200mm originally for my Rally Photography, of which I now do less than my Wildlife.

Would it be worth selling the 70-200mm and getting a 100-300mm f4, which will still give me a decent lens alone for Rallying, being f4, and adding the 1.4x TC for my wildlife, giving me 420mm at f/5.6?

Or would it be better to save for something like a 120-400mm/150-500mm/170-500mm???

Bit of a dilema here, and would just like to know what others would do in a similar situation.

Thanks very much

I use the 100-300 with a 1.4 and as long as you stop it down a little it's a good combination.

Example @ 420mm

not bad Scott, I'm liking it.

f10 that's throwing up as in your exif and ISO 1000, I know my D50 won't handle ISO that high, reckon the S3 Pro would for Nature though.

Motorsport/Rallying though I would get away with 300mm I'm sure of it

I set it to f/9 to f/10 in manual, choose the shutter speed then auto iso. It was quite cloudy when that shot was taken, I also have the 70-200 so with a second body I'm well covered.

Ideally I'd love to keep the 70-200mm, but I'm in no position to buy a 100-300mm f4 so would need the 70-200mm to fund it, hence why the 100-300mm will allow me to still get around the forests in lowish light at f4 and the 1.4x TC will give me the wildlife reach I desire :)
