Lens spare parts?

A while ago I bought a second hand EF-S 10-22mm lens since I didn't see any point in buying new one (I plan to upgrade to FF at some point)

Yesterday I got the lens out of my bag and took the lens cover off and shortly after that I heard something fall on the ground. I looked and it was a black plastic ring and when I picked it up I noticed that it was the ring that normally sits around the glass lens element and it has the lens focal length and canon etc written on it.

The ring has a few plastic retaining clips and some of these have been broken at some point and it looks like they've perhaps also be glued at some point!

Can any of these parts like this be sourced or are my only options to buy a spare lens on ebay for scrap parts or to send it off to Canon? The dead lenses for spares are still expensive and I don't imagine a Canon repair will be all that cheap either.

The lens was purchased from MPB and whilst it was marked as having slight damage there wasn't any indication of what damage it was. I imagine it was just scratched or something so this is a bit annoying! It doesn't seem to affect how it works so it's not the end of the world but I don't want the ring to randomly fall out somewhere it can't be recovered :/

glue it back in or phone canon and ask if they would just sell you the part (which I imagine is only for cosmetic purposes)

btw. buying a lens labeled as damaged from a dealer is not a risk free gamble. It sounds like it was dropped and / or badly repaired by somebody as that part is the last one to fail normally.

Yeah I've bought new lenses as much as possible for this reason but they were all EF lenses so I could continue to use them after.

If it's the only the front ring, I would expect you can buy it easily and replace it. You need to check the little lugs / retaining clips haven't broke off and are still in the lens - if they are, then it's either a more challenging repair or more expensive one.

Alternatively, if it's been working well and you've been happy with the lens, you could just reattach the ring and carry on with it...

Also make sure the front element isn't loose ...
