Just somthing im curious about.

Somtimes i see pictures of people with really big lenses on there cameras, and they'll carry the camera around at at there side, not supporting the lens at all. Same goes for big lenses on tripods, not holding the lens to support it.

Would this not damage, or risk damaging the lens, or the lens mount (is that what you call it?! :bonk:) of the camerea?

Thanks,
Dean.

depends what you mean by 'big' lenses.

70-200 2.8, and some similar lenses, 100-400 etc, are fine, the camera mount is very sturdy.

Lenses that it's not ok to do this with have their own strap mounting points on them (eg 400mm 2.8)

The way I have seen this subject is if the lens has a lens strap and mounting points then you should use this. If it has not got lens mounting points then it should be safe to carry via the Camera mount. My birding lens has a lens strap so I always use that to carry it.

I asked something similar a while ago - not sure if its along the same lines of what your asking but it may or may not help... Carry a large lens...
