With the 50D I am about to buy I have decided to get a 100-400mm but was looking at a short zoom and think I am down to two what are your experience of them not sure which to go for
Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM
Canon EF 24-70mm F2.8L USM

both are excellent lenses, but it depends what you are going to use them for. moving objects inside, the 24-70. if you dont need the f2.8 for faster shutter speeds the 24-105 with its extra zoom, cheaper price and IS would work better

Yep. I own 24-105. I usually shoot landscape and general photo outside. So this lens is ideal . I have a chance to try my firend's 24-70. I think the range on 24-70 is a bit too short for me. There were many times I wished I could reach a bit more. It is awesome indoor though. But when I will shoot indoor with my 24-105 I'll use a flash anyway. So, for my needs, I prefer 24-105

Thanks it was the shorter range that I was thinking about I do have teh Sigma 17-70 as well I know its not L glass but its an OK lens
